HONOLULU – The Washington men's tennis team closed out a strong road trip in Hawaii, defeating Fresno State 6-1 at the UH Tennis Complex.

"Fresno State is very solid so this was a nice win," said head coach Matt Anger. "We know Coach Shields does a really good job too."

To begin the match Fresno State took 2-1 leads on all three courts in doubles. However, UW was able to battle back, with Jake Douglas and Piers Foley defeating Euan McIntosh and Patrik Pech 6-3. Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer mounted the same comeback on court two, clinching the doubles point with a 6-3 win. Court three's doubles match went unfinished as Washington took a 1-0 lead into singles.

UW controlled singles from the beginning, winning the first set on all six courts. First to finish his match was freshman Amit Batta on court five, defeating Youssef Hassan 6-1, 6-2 and moving to 12-0 in singles in dual match play. On courts three and four, Douglas and Gal Hakak also picked up wins in two sets, giving the Huskies a 4-0 lead to clinch the victory.

Continuing the strong singles performance, Mitch Stewart battled to defeat Euan McIntosh in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 on court two. Playing on court one, Sommer took the first set 7-5 but dropped a close second set 5-7 and a tough tie-break 7-10. Foley closed out the day with a victory on court six in another close three-setter 7-6, 4-6, 12-10 to give the Huskies a 6-1 win.

"It was a fun week for us here in Hawaii and we can't wait to get the Pac-12 season started next week," said Anger.

Washington will be back in action on the road next week, opening up their conference schedule in Los Angeles, Calif. at UCLA on Friday March 31, before facing USC on Saturday April 1.
