SEATTLE – The University of Washington announced the inductees to the 2018 Husky Hall of Fame class today. The new class will be inducted at a ceremony on Sunday, October 21.

Inductees include:  

• Mark Brunell (football, 1989-92)
• Chris Gobrecht (women's basketball coach, 1985-96)
• Danielle Lawrie (softball, 2006-07, 2009-10)
• Brock Mackenzie (men's golf, 2001-04)
• Brandon Roy (men's basketball, 2003-06)
• Courtney Thompson (volleyball, 2003-06)
• Chad Ward (football, 1997-2000)
• 1984 & 1985 women's eight-oared crews

Additionally, Dick Crews will be presented with the Don H. Palmer Award, which was established in 1994 to recognize those who have exemplified a special commitment to the UW Athletic Department. As the unpaid athletic team physician from 1904-1947, Dr. Palmer founded the Big W Alumni Club, the Homecoming Halftime Blanket Parade and the 101 Club. Past award winners include Bill Bissell (1995), Gertrude Peoples (1996), Bruce Terami (1998), Orrin Vincent II (2001) Don Smith (2004), Stanley Pocock (2014) and Craig Heyamoto (2016).
 
Crews, a graduate of Seattle's Garfield High, was the first African-American man to play basketball at the University of Washington, starting for three seasons and earning three letters (1956-58). Elected first vice president of the Associated Students of the University of Washington, he was also the first African-American officer elected to the ASUW, which he also served as president of the Organizations Assembly. After earning his degree (B.A., history, '58), Crews was a board member of the UW's Educational Opportunity Program and served two years each as president of the Quarterback Club and the Husky Hoop club. From 1987 to 1989, he was UW Alumni Association District Governor for Northern California.

The Husky Hall of Fame was founded in 1979 and currently includes 181 individuals and 23 teams or rowing crews. The 2018 class will be inducted Sunday, October 21, at the 2018 Husky Hall of Fame Ceremony in Alaska Airlines Arena.
