SEATTLE -- Head Coach Lindsay Meggs announced on Thursday that Andy Jenkins will join the Washington baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach. He will focus on the UW hitters and catchers while also working on the staff's recruiting efforts. Jenkins arrives on Montlake after serving two seasons as an assistant coach with Cal State Fullerton under head coach Rick Vanderhook. Prior to that, Jenkins spent seven years on the staff at Oregon State, which included a 2018 College World Series title.

"I have so many great relationships with some of the finest baseball people in the Northwest and I look forward to seeing those familiar faces. I've always loved the Pac-12 conference and cannot wait to hit the ground running with the coaching staff, players and represent the University of Washington." 

Jenkins has a reputation for developing elite catchers, having worked with Adley Rutschman and Logan Ice while with Oregon State. Rutschman was the 2019 College World Series Most Outstanding Player and the 2019 Golden Spikes Award winner as the top amateur player in the country. He was the No. 1 Overall Pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Ice was the 2016 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year after throwing out 44% of base runners. He was selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. 

A standout player in the Pac-12 for Oregon State, Jenkins played in 98 games over two seasons for the Beavers. A First Team All-Pac-10 selection in 2005, Jenkins hit .388 and was crucial in leading Oregon State to its first College World Series in over 50 years at the time. In their postseason run, Jenkins led the Beavers with a .459 average while driving in 13 runs. 

He was drafted in the 11th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins and played seven years professionally, reaching as high as the AAA level. After his playing career, Jenkins returned to OSU and graduated with a degree in psychology in 2012.

A Salem, Ore. native, Jenkins is married to the former Jessica McGee. They have two daughters, Blakely and Presley.
