SEATTLE -- Head Coach Lindsay Meggs announced on Thursday that Andy Jenkins will join the Washington baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach. He will focus on the UW hitters and catchers while also working on the staff's recruiting efforts. Jenkins arrives on Montlake after serving two seasons as an assistant coach with Cal State Fullerton under head coach Rick Vanderhook. Prior to that, Jenkins spent seven years on the staff at Oregon State, which included a 2018 College World Series title.

"My family and I feel blessed for this opportunity to be a Husky," Jenkins said. "I have so many great relationships with some of the finest baseball people in the Northwest and I look forward to seeing those familiar faces. I've always loved the Pac-12 conference and cannot wait to hit the ground running with the coaching staff, players and represent the University of Washington."

Jenkins has a reputation for developing elite catchers, having worked with Adley Rutschman and Logan Ice while with Oregon State. Rutschman was the 2019 College World Series Most Outstanding Player and the 2019 Golden Spikes Award winner as the top amateur player in the country. He was the No. 1 Overall Pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Ice was the 2016 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year after throwing out 44% of base runners. He was selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.

A standout player in the Pac-12 for Oregon State, Jenkins played in 98 games over two seasons for the Beavers. A First Team All-Pac-10 selection in 2005, Jenkins hit .388 and was crucial in leading Oregon State to its first College World Series in over 50 years at the time. In their postseason run, Jenkins led the Beavers with a .459 average while driving in 13 runs.

He was drafted in the 11th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins and played seven years professionally, reaching as high as the AAA level. After his playing career, Jenkins returned to OSU and graduated with a degree in psychology in 2012.

A Salem, Ore. native, Jenkins is married to the former Jessica McGee. They have two daughters, Blakely and Presley.

What They're Saying About Andy Jenkins

"This is a great day for Husky Baseball and it's a great day for the Jenkins family. Andy Jenkins is a great fit for us. While his primary responsibilities will be coordinating the hitting, working with our catchers and of course recruiting, I know there's much more to Andy than that. Andy's going to make an impact in all our players' lives both on and off the field. Once you're around Andy for any length of time, you understand that it's not just about baseball with him, it's about building relationships. And our players are going to respond to that. Andy's going to make them better people, better players and better teammates. This guy is a big-time winner who knows what it takes, and as importantly he knows how to have fun along the way. Welcome to Husky Baseball Andy and Jessica, Blakely and Presley. Go Dawgs!" - Lindsay Meggs, Washington head coach

"The Huskies have hired Northwest royalty in Andy Jenkins. He has coached in Omaha, played in Omaha, and he will bring that with him to the ballpark every day. His leadership qualities, charisma and work ethic make him one of the best young coaches in the college game. On the field the players will love him and off the field he will make an immediate impact on the recruiting trail. I can't say enough about this hire, it has Omaha written all over it." - Gabe Sandy, Texas Rangers

"I'm so excited for Andy Jenkins and the University of Washington Baseball Program. Andy will bring that competitive energy to the Huskies that all big-time winners have. He asks the same question every day, "What can I do today to make our players better?" Andy is all about teamwork, integrity and sportsmanship, and he will make everyone around him elevate their game. Good luck to Andy and good luck to the Huskies." - Rick Vanderhook, Cal State Fullerton head coach (2012-2021)

"Andy Jenkins is an outstanding hire for the University of Washington baseball program. After finishing his pro career, Andy became our volunteer coach at Oregon State and then joined our staff full time when I became the interim head coach. Andy did a great job with our hitters, our infielders and our catchers. On and off the field he made a difference in their lives, as he is truly committed to using baseball as an avenue to help his players become great people. And like all good recruiters, Andy will bring in outstanding players with great character. Andy Jenkins is built to last and so are the players that he coaches. Congratulations, Huskies, Andy is going to be a great addition to the Husky baseball program." Pat Bailey, Oregon State head coach (2019-20) and assistant (2008-18)

"I had the pleasure of playing for Coach Jenkins my entire career at Oregon State.  From the day I arrived on campus he was always in my corner both on and off the field.  He's been extremely influential in my development behind the plate and my overall feel for the game and I can't thank him enough for the time we spent together on the field.  He made us a better team and he made me a better player." - Adley Rutschman, No. 1 Overall Pick in 2019 MLB Draft (Orioles), 2019 Golden Spikes Award winner, 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year
