SEATTLE - Washington head baseball coach Jason Kelly has announced Billy Boyer and Jake Silverman as assistant coaches.
 
Boyer, who previously served as undergraduate assistant baseball coach at the UW, returns to the UW from the Detroit Tigers where he served as infield coordinator for one season after two with the Minnesota Twins.  A native of Auburn, WA, Boyer played four years of professional baseball after being drafted in the 19th round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Anaheim Angels.
 
"Billy is one of the best on field instructors in baseball and exactly the addition we need," said Head Coach Jason Kelly.  "His time in professional baseball, as a player and as an instructor, will be a great advantage for our team.  We are excited to welcome Billy and Savanna back to Montlake."
 
Silverman joins the Huskies from Cal Poly where he spent three seasons as assistant coach and in charge of the pitching staff.  Prior to Cal Poly, and over a 11-year span, Silverman coached at Cal State Fullerton, UCLA and Nevada. Silverman is a 2005 graduate of Foothill High School in Santa Ana. At Fullerton College, he batted .350 as a freshman in 2006. In 2007, he earned the Art Nunn Award for exemplary acts on and off the field.
 
"Jake is one of the best recruiters on the west coast.  Recruiting is all about relationships and Jake has developed great relationships," said Kelly.  "On the field, he has worked with some of the best coaches in college baseball, and he's coached every position at a high level. Jake's experience will pay instant dividends for our team, and we could not be more excited to welcome him to the UW."
